Sharon Zink - Editor

Dr Sharon Zink is a former English Literature academic, having studied at London and Cambridge, who has over eleven years’ experience of editing and creative writing teaching.

Her first novel, Welcome to Sharonville (Unthank Books, 2014), was longlisted for The Guardian First Book Award and is currently being developed as a TV series. She has won numerous awards, such as being named as Young Poet of the Year and Writers Inc. Writer of the Year, as well as being shortlisted three times for The New Writer Short Story Award and for The Raymond Carver Prize.

She is very proud that many of her clients have gone on to get agents and deals, including bestselling authors, Amanda Prowse and Kathryn Hughes, as well as the twice Macmillan-published, Mark Gartside, and Kate Glanville, whose books are with Accent and Penguin US.

She has recently helped Helen Fisher’s novel become the lead title for Simon and Schuster in 2020.

Testimonials

“What I found most refreshingly useful was that you were so brilliantly candid but in a very kind, compassionate and constructive way even when being brutally honest!”

– Annie M.

"I just went through the edits and was impressed with the quality of your work. I couldn't have asked for a better copy editing. Thanks a tonne!"

- Mohan T

"Sharon did a wonderful full MS assessment of my novel. I acted on a lot of her insights, redrafting the novel with lots of changes, and I’ve just been long-listed in a national novel competition."

- Wendy J.

WHY WE LOVE SHARON

Sharon brings decades of experience at top publishers and as a writing coach to the table. We’ve watched writers thrive on her feedback and – because she reads so widely – she is a perfect editor for adult novels that fall between the cracks of specific genre. WHAT SHARON SAYS ABOUT EDITING

Having been fortunate enough to have had great literary mentors who helped me gain confidence and skill as a writer and get published, it’s my great privilege to now pay that forward and ensure that authors become who they were meant to be and achieve their writing dreams.

Hence I am known for being supportive and encouraging, but also rigorous in my approach, bringing a deep level of detailed analysis to my clients’ work due to my academic training, so they are absolutely ready to submit and don’t get unnecessary painful rejections by sending out their MSS too soon.

I also offer line and developmental editing and am widely experienced in this area as a literary editor and with more general materials (recently, I was the chief editor on the LFB’s report on the Grenfell fire).

Moreover, I am a Martha Beck-trained coach and love to mentor authors individually as I believe this can really make editorial reports more digestible and the redrafting process easier.
