Jane Struthers - Editor

Jane Struthers has been writing books since her teens and ghosted her first book for A Very Famous Person in her twenties.

Jane first made it into print under her own name in 1990 and since then has written over 30 non-fiction books that have been published by Ebury Press, Godsfield Press and Watkins Books, among others. Her book on the British countryside, Red Sky at Night, was named a Hatchards Book of the Year in 2010. As well as writing on a wide variety of general topics, Jane specializes in Mind, Body, Spirit subjects, including astrology, tarot, palmistry and healing. WHAT JANE SAYS ABOUT EDITING

I know from my own experience how unnerving it can be to write a book and be unsure whether it’s any good. Showing it to friends and family isn’t necessarily the answer because most of them are too kind-hearted to say anything other than ‘It’s wonderful’. That might be good for the ego but it’s not always good for the writing. Every writer needs an objective and encouraging sounding board – someone who understands the business of writing and who can give guidance or praise as necessary. That’s why I enjoy my work for Jericho Writers. It’s so satisfying to get my metaphorical teeth into a manuscript and assess it carefully, not only for its content and the quality of the writing but also for its structure. Does point A flow into idea B, or are they interrupted by point P that has somehow strayed into the mix? My many years as a non-fiction editor have taught me to analyse a book to see whether it has succeeded in conveying the author’s message.
